To address surface water management, Kabul Municipality’s Directorate of Works Maintenance and Monitoring is actively constructing a water transfer canal and absorption wells along the road from Tahia Maskan Intersection to Sarai Shamali. The canal being built measures 1,100 meters in length, 90 centimeters in width, and varies in depth from 90 to 190 centimeters. As part of the project, 80 absorption wells—each 11.5 meters deep and 1.85 meters in diameter—have been planned, with 19 already completed. Simultaneously, work on essential sections of the road’s secondary lanes is nearing completion and will soon be ready for asphalting.  These secondary roads on both sides of the main road span 1,100 meters in length and 14.5 meters in width, and will include sidewalks, flowerbeds, bicycle lanes, parking areas, lighting systems, and traffic signs. The paving of the left-side road is already completed, while the right-side paving will begin once the foundational work is finalized. Upon completion, this project will enhance urban amenities for residents and ease traffic congestion in Sarai Shamali and nearby neighborhoods. Additionally, another water canal project—measuring 688 meters from Parwan 3 to Wazir Abad—is set to commence soon
