To control surface water and prevent road flooding during rainfall, Kabul Municipality’s Sanitation Department has initiated canal cleaning operations stretching from Sarai Shamali to the Wazir Abad canal in the Lab-e-Jar area. Engineer Naveed Ahmad Shirzad, Head of the Canals Department, stated that the campaign is focused on clearing blocked canals along the roads in northern Kabul. He called on residents to help maintain clean canals and drainage systems, stressing that public cooperation is essential to preventing water overflow during heavy rains. Engineer Shirzad also noted that negligence by some citizens has led to blockages in many parts of the city’s drainage system, resulting in both environmental and urban challenges. To carry out this operation, six waste transport trucks, two excavators, and 170 sanitation workers have been mobilized.
