The construction of Qala-e Shanan Road, extending from the Qala-e Zaman Khan area along the Kabul–Jalalabad highway to the front of the Military University, has resumed after delays caused by technical issues.

At present, the construction of sidewalks on both sides of the 4,206-meter-long and 3-meter-wide road is in progress. The installation of curbstones and the construction of flowerbeds are also underway to ensure the project’s timely completion.

According to the Directorate of Programs and Projects Management of Kabul Municipality, the Qala-e Shanan Road—measuring 2,103 meters in length and 30 meters in width—includes the construction of an 850-meter canal, 77 percent of which has been completed so far.

The municipality plans to begin the first and second asphalt layers on the remaining sections soon, aiming to complete and inaugurate the project before winter begins.

It is worth mentioning that construction work is also ongoing on a bridge over the Kabul River along the same route. The bridge will be 60 meters long and 18.4 meters wide. Delays in the project were partly due to the preparation of essential bridge materials and girders, which are now being installed, followed by the concrete paving.
