A standard wastewater treatment facility in the Sarak-e Naw area of District 9 has been completed and officially inaugurated by Mawlawi Mohammad Khalid Sajistani, Deputy Mayor for Urban Services of Kabul Municipality.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Deputy Mayor Sajistani stated that Kabul City faces environmental challenges due to the lack of an organized sewage system. He highlighted that the establishment of this treatment plant is an important and effective step toward environmental preservation and the sustainable use of water resources.

He further pointed out that Kabul Municipality plans to construct similar treatment facilities in other parts of the city with the cooperation of the private sector.

Mr. Sajistani added that the treated water and 10 percent of the chemical fertilizer produced by the facility will be used to irrigate green areas and strengthen urban trees.

The facility, constructed on two acres of land at a cost of 18 million Afghanis, has the capacity to treat 2,500 cubic meters of wastewater every 24 hours.

At the conclusion of the ceremony, the association of tanker owners was instructed to transport household wastewater to this treatment plant and strictly avoid discharging it in urban areas.
