Kabul Municipality’s Directorate of Works Maintenance and Monitoring has started a surface water management project along the Mirwais Maidan (Kote Sangi) road to resolve technical challenges and regulate surface water flow.
As part of this initiative, construction work on a drainage canal has commenced, stretching from the Kote Sangi Bridge to Pul-e-Sokhta. The canal measures 600 meters in length, 60 centimeters in width, and 70 centimeters in depth. The project was initiated following an assessment of vulnerable sections in the area to prevent water overflow onto the roads and to eliminate waterlogging issues by directing runoff water into the Kabul River.
It is worth mentioning that Kabul Municipality’s surface water management initiatives include the construction of manholes, the clearing of slabs, the installation of culverts, and the connection of side drains to main canals. Similar projects are being carried out in several other areas of the city.
