As part of efforts to enhance Kabul’s transit infrastructure, work has begun on laying the third (final) asphalt layer on the new connecting road stretching from the Airport intersection to the Gumrak area. The process commenced after construction materials successfully passed laboratory evaluations, and authorities intend to complete the project swiftly to open it for traffic. The road measures 2,794 meters in length and 60 meters in width. Designed as one of Kabul’s major routes, it features two main lanes and two secondary lanes, along with canals, culverts, drainage systems, sidewalks, flowerbeds, bicycle lanes, road markings, and other elements of a standard roadway. Engineers from the Directorate of Programs and Projects Management are overseeing continuous technical monitoring to ensure the quality of construction. This road is regarded as an important and strategic passage. Once finished, it is expected to significantly lessen traffic congestion in Makrorian, Public Health, and the Airport intersections. It will also enhance movement for residents and support economic growth in nearby areas
