
The construction of a vehicle overpass in front of the Kabul Provincial Building, with a cost of 462 million Afghanis, has officially started as part of efforts to expand traffic and transportation infrastructure and reduce congestion in Kabul city. The inauguration ceremony was attended by Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Mawlawi Abdul Ghani Baradar, Deputy Prime Minister for Administrative Affairs Mawlawi Abdul Salam Hanafi, Kabul Mayor Mawlawi Abdul Rasheed, Head of the Administrative Affairs Office Sheikh Noor-ul-Haq Anwar, Minister of Communications and Information Technology Mawlawi Hamdullah Nomani, Head of Emirate Companies Mawlawi Ahmad Jan Bilal, Kabul Governor Mawlawi Aminullah Obaid, along with a number of other senior officials and leaders.
During the ceremony, the Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs praised the leadership of Kabul Municipality, stating that this major and strategic overpass project will play an important role in easing traffic congestion in the central parts of the city and addressing public difficulties. He noted that the project marks a significant step toward strengthening transportation infrastructure and will open a new chapter in traffic management and urban development.
The Deputy Prime Minister for Administrative Affairs, Mawlawi Abdul Salam Hanafi, stated that Kabul city is currently witnessing the implementation of numerous unprecedented projects, which have instilled renewed hope among residents for a brighter future. He emphasized that public cooperation is essential for the successful implementation of public welfare and infrastructure projects.
Kabul Municipality’s Deputy for Construction Affairs, Engineer Amir Zmarak Yasir, explained that the decision to construct the overpass was made following comprehensive technical and engineering studies. He stated that the bridge will be 235 meters long, 18 meters wide, and 6.8 meters high, supported by five reinforced pillars. He further noted that the circular ramp of the bridge, with a radius of 33 meters, will extend 155 meters and has been designed in accordance with international standards. The project is expected to be fundamentally completed within 15 months by Kabul Municipality’s Directorate of Works Maintenance and Monitoring.
The overpass has been designed with four lanes—two for inbound and two for outbound traffic—featuring loop-style ramps, and will connect Shahr-e-Naw Road with Salang Avenue and Joi-e Sheer Road.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Administrative Affairs Office Sheikh Noor-ul-Haq Anwar and the Minister of Communications and Information Technology Mawlawi Hamdullah Nomani also commended Kabul Municipality’s activities over the past nearly four years, expressing confidence that the implementation of public welfare and infrastructure projects will soon transform Kabul into a developed, prosperous, and beautiful city.
With the completion of this overpass, traffic congestion in the central areas of Kabul is expected to be significantly reduced, while also contributing to urban beautification, sustainable development, and economic growth.
