Initial Works on Kabul–Kandahar Road in Western Zone of Kabul Commences

Initial construction and expansion work on the Kabul–Kandahar Road project in the western zone of Kabul city have been launched by the Kabul Municipality’s Directorate of Works Maintenance and Monitoring. The project extends from Company Bridge to the gypsum factory in the Qala-e-Haidar area of District 14, with an estimated cost of 700 million Afghanis.
Kabul Municipality’s spokesman Mawlawi Fazl Rahman Rahmani stated that the municipality’s leadership is committed to developing economic corridors, adding that this road is being constructed as a key economic route in Kabul to meet the transportation needs of residents.
Meanwhile, the Technical Deputy of the Directorate of Works Maintenance and Monitoring, Engineer Mohammad Dawood Zawab, said the road has been designed by the Urban Infrastructure Directorate of Kabul Municipality with a total length of 7 kilometers and a width of 60 meters, and is expected to be completed within 18 months.
Officials noted that the road holds significant importance for the economic development of the surrounding areas and will provide improved transportation facilities for travelers on the Kabul–Kandahar highway.
In the initial phase, existing obstacles along the route will be removed.
It was also stated that 256 properties along the route will be subject to expropriation, with their owners receiving alternative rights in accordance with relevant laws and procedures.
