Initial Construction Begins on Flyover and Circular Ramps at Nejat Monument Intersection

Kabul Municipality’s Directorate of Works Maintenance and Monitoring has begun the initial construction of a flyover and two circular ramps at Nejat Monument Intersection to expand the city’s transportation infrastructure, reduce traffic congestion, and increase road capacity.
Engineer Mohammad Dawood Zawab, Technical Assistant to the Directorate of Works Maintenance and Monitoring, stated that the Nejat Monument flyover has been designed with six traffic lanes, including three lanes in each direction.
According to him, the flyover will measure 450 meters in length, 28 meters in width, and 7 meters in height. Upon completion, it is expected to significantly increase traffic capacity and provide safer and more efficient transportation for motorists.
He added that the project also includes two loop-style circular ramps measuring 225 meters and 239 meters in length, with radii of 48 meters and 50 meters, respectively. The project further includes connecting roads that will allow vehicles to move between different routes without delays or traffic congestion.
According to the design prepared by Kabul Municipality’s Directorate of Urban Infrastructure, the flyover will be constructed along the Kabul–Logar main road. The project has been planned in response to the city’s growing population, the increasing number of vehicles, and the need for a modern transportation network. It is regarded as one of Kabul’s major strategic infrastructure projects.
Nejat Monument Intersection is one of Kabul’s busiest intersections, linking the two major economic corridors of the Kabul–Logar and Kabul–Jalalabad highways. Persistent traffic congestion at the intersection has resulted in significant travel delays, increased fuel consumption, and higher levels of environmental pollution.
Kabul Municipality officials stated that extensive technical studies and engineering assessments were carried out before the project was designed. The findings indicated that the existing intersection is no longer capable of accommodating current and future traffic demands, making the construction of a grade-separated interchange essential for providing a long-term solution to congestion.
Kabul Municipality emphasized that the project will further modernize the city’s transportation network, reduce traffic congestion, strengthen urban mobility, and significantly improve the quality of transportation services across Kabul.
Through the implementation of this project, Kabul Municipality aims to modernize the city’s transportation infrastructure, address long-standing traffic challenges, improve urban traffic management, ensure the sustainability of urban infrastructure, and deliver lasting improvements to Kabul’s transportation system.
