Construction of the flyover in front of the Kabul Provincial Administration building, launched by Kabul Municipality’s Directorate of Works Maintenance and Monitoring on the 9th of Jadi 1404 at a cost of 462 million Afghanis, is progressing rapidly and has now exceeded 60 percent completion. Kabul Municipality aims to complete the project and open it for public use within the next four months.
The flyover measures 235 meters in length, 18 meters in width, and 6.8 meters in height. The project also includes the construction of 472 meters of retaining walls on both sides of the bridge, supported by six reinforced piers. Installation of 72 girders forms part of the project, with 56 already installed, while the remaining girders are scheduled to be installed in the coming days. To minimize disruption to traffic, girder installation is being carried out during nighttime hours.
The project also includes a 150-meter-long circular ramp with a radius of 33 meters, designed to improve traffic flow. Initial construction of the ramp has already commenced. The flyover has been designed with four lanes, two in each direction, along with loop-style ramps to ensure uninterrupted, safe, and efficient vehicle movement.
Meanwhile, construction and expansion of the new Joi Sheer connecting road is also underway. The road extends 783 meters from the front of the Kabul Provincial Administration building to the Machine Khana area and has a width of 32 meters.
Kabul Municipality is utilizing all available resources to complete the project within the next four months.
Salang Avenue is one of Kabul’s busiest commercial corridors, experiencing heavy traffic throughout the day. Upon completion of the flyover and the connecting road, traffic congestion in the area is expected to be significantly reduced, while traffic flow between Shahr-e Naw, Deh Afghanan, and surrounding areas will be substantially improved.
