Along with the installation of girders and reinforcement works, Kabul Municipality’s Directorate of Works Maintenance and Monitoring has started concrete work on the deck slab of the Baraki Intersection flyover.
Engineer Obaidullah Elham, the project manager, said the Baraki Intersection flyover is designed to extend 700 meters from Dahan-e Bagh Intersection toward Parwan-e Du Intersection, with a width of 20 meters and a height of 8 meters. To date, 150 girders have been installed, while the remaining 59 girders are expected to be installed soon.
According to him, concrete work is currently underway in the sections where the girders have been installed, in accordance with technical and engineering standards. Efforts are being made to complete the main construction works of the flyover and underpass during the current year, God willing, and open them to the public.
He added that an underpass extending from the Naderia High School toward Traffic Intersection is being constructed with a length of 470 meters, a width of 20 meters, and a depth of 5.5 meters. Asphalt paving of the underpass is scheduled to begin in the coming days.
The Baraki Intersection project has been designed in accordance with technical and engineering standards to improve traffic flow. The flyover will have two lanes in each direction and, by eliminating the at-grade intersection, will provide vehicles with more organized and safer movement.
Once completed, the project will further facilitate transportation between the central areas of Kabul and the northern and western parts of the city, while significantly reducing traffic congestion.
It is worth noting that the project will also play an effective role in expanding transportation infrastructure and improving the urban landscape.
